The Department of Neurosurgery at North Shore University Hospital, part of the Cushing Neuroscience Institute, provides world-class patient care with compassion while contributing to advances in our field. We are fortunate to have the breadth and depth of expertise that allows for a multidisciplinary approach to the entire spectrum of neurological disorders including benign and malignant brain tumors, brain aneurysms, traumatic brain injury, movement disorders, epilepsy and back and neck problems.
Our 16-bed Neurosurgical Care Unit is one of the largest and best specialized ICUs in the country and can make the difference between life and death for critically ill patients. Our team of neurosurgeons has performed more endoscopic pituitary and skull base surgeries than anyone else on Long Island and in Queens, averaging approximately 30 cases annually, with that number steadily growing. Our hospital's neurosurgeons have performed more deep brain stimulation (DBS) procedures than any other hospital in the region and are on the cutting edge of neuromodulation for the treatment of pain, movement disorders and even headaches. We successfully perform epilepsy surgery, giving people who suffer from uncontrolled seizures a new lease on life and utilize state-of-the art technology including intra-operative MRI to optimally remove tumors during surgery.
