Syringomyelia

Syringomyelia is a disorder in which a cyst (or syrinx) forms within the spinal cord. As it expands and elongates, it destroys the center of the spinal cord. This spinal cord damage may cause symptoms such as pain, weakness and stiffness in the back, shoulders, arms or legs. Additionally, other symptoms such as headaches and a loss of the ability to feel extremes of hot or cold, may present.
