May is National Stroke Awareness Month

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in America.

The facts are:

  • Every year stroke kills almost 130,000 Americans.
  • One American dies from stroke every 4 minutes each year.
  • Per year, more than 795,000 people in the United States have a stroke.

Do you know:

  • If you at risk for a stroke?
  • If you have risk factors that can be altered?
  • What you can do to prevent a stroke?
  • Which medications can prevent a stroke? 

May is National Stroke Awareness Month and the North Shore-LIJ Health System is hosting numerous events and programs to increase stroke awareness and prevention.
